It is one of those Saturdays when everyone is home – no weddings, no trainings, not even a visit to our usual playground nor any other recreational place. Surely with us all at home, we had to give the kids something to do besides watching DSTV or gaming. So we got right to it. Got our make-shift aprons, cardboards, glue, poster colour and all other stationery we could get. It was art-attack time and believe me, we got this!
We had fun painting and made really good mess of the mat. Even some parts of our clothes had paint on them – our aprons could not rescue our clothes from the messiness we had created.
Let’s play a game, one of my sons said. I’ll make something and everyone else would guess what it is. We made boats, airplanes and crowns. When the ‘crown’ was being made, all but one of us instantly guessed that it was a crown. One of my sons however said he thought it was a hand saw. Until he said that, I didn’t give it much thought. Nonetheless, I agreed, it was great that he saw a saw. (yeah pun intended…lol!) Rather than move on, the two of them began to argue about whether it was actually a crown or/and a saw. So I quickly took a sticky tape and stuck the ends of the ‘saw’ together and we had our crown. Whoa-la! That’ll put an end to the argument I thought. The one who said he felt that the item was a saw felt like I helped his brother cheat by changing the saw to a crown. Oh well, guess that was a signal to call it a day. I got them distracted with snacks and cleared up our mess.
