Waking up to prayer messages from my mom and mother-in-law, to “How are you doing?” text messages from my dad, to funny videos from my sisters goofing around, or to skits forwarded from my brothers, happen oh so frequently, that I sadly rarely appreciate how they all make my life so beautiful, so meaningful!
I cannot imagine a world where I do not wake up to having my husband or children in my life – being ‘disturbed’ by their incessant requests, and often ‘interrupted’ by their calls. Like drawing out a bunny from a hat, I have often had to come up with interventions of sorts so that I don’t drop the ball.
Seeking for my attention may sometimes ruffle my feathers. My home is often characterized by my children playfully tugging at one another, and my husband seeking new ways to flirtatiously get my attention.
It’s easier to fall prey to the slippery slope of complaint than to be deliberate about being grateful for the things that I do have.
A wise person once told me that we don’t have a choice about our family of origin i.e. the family we’re born into but as adults, we get to choose our family.
Days like these remind me to be thankful for both.
I’ve been blessed with friendships so rare. My family has only gotten bigger, fuller, broader, merrier, goofier and quirkier. And yes, I’ll have it no other way.
Now, more than ever, I understand the importance of the family system and the sheer advantage of being set in one.
I join the rest of the world to celebrate the International Day of Families but more importantly, I recognize and celebrate my family, for in all sincerity, they are my WORLD . My family, My World!
Are you grateful for your family? How about letting them know, not just today but every single day!
Happy International Family Day, my online family.
P.S. I was tempted to put up a family photo but couldn’t find that one picture that captures all members of my family.
